Frank Martin Services set

A. Frank Martin, formerly of 325 N. Husband, died Wednesday, June 9, 1982, in Westhaven Nursing Home. He was 87.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Strode Chapel, with the Rev. Charlie Baker officiating. Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Strode Funeral Home.

The son of Samuel and Nan (Martin) Wright, he was born Dec. 7, 1894, north of Saliisaw. He grew up in Sallisaw and attended school in Tahlequah.

He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Oklahoma State University.

On Aug. 12, 1919, he and Grace Faye Aikins were married in Pawnee City, Neb.

The couple moved to Altus, where he was principal at the high school. He then went to Carnegie as superintendent of schools.

After earning his master’s, he moved to Yale, where he was superintendent of schools until 1929. The couple then moved to Pauls Valley, where he was superintendent of Boys Training School. He returned to Stillwater ion 1931 to be on the president’s staff.

His staff positions included head of student employment, YMCA director and student entertainer, a position he held when he retired in 1955 to become full-time national executive secretary for Kappa Kappa Psi.

He had held a part-time post with Kappa Kappa Psi since 1937. He was also a member of Tau Beta Sigma, a men’s and women’s band fraternity. He retired in 1964.

He was a charter member of the Stillwater chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha, Rotary Club, former member of Gideons, former scoutmaster of Troop 19, Frontier Masonic Lodge No. 48 for 50 years and 32nd degree mason, Scottish Rite Consistory ay Guthrie, Rebekah Lodge No. 16 and 50-year pin, the American Legion, University I.O.O.F. No 4, and a World War I veteran.

He was also a charter member of University Heights Baptist Church.

A son, Andrew Franklin Martin, Jr., preceded him in Death Dec. 1, 1954.
