GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. It is an annual day of giving to support organizations across the country.

How does Tau Beta Sigma participate?

On November 28th, Tau Beta Sigma will be taking part in an annual global day of giving and kindness called GivingTuesday. From an operational standpoint, yearly contributions on GivingTuesday have allowed us to continue providing our chapters with a variety of resources such as one-on-one attention from our National Leadership through the Chapter Visitation Assistant program, offering leadership development opportunities during each of our six yearly district conventions, as well as our biennial National Convention, and a continuation of funding for support of our National Programming such as the Women In Music Speaker Series, our annual scholarships, and the National Intercollegiate Band.

What Programs Do Donations Support?

There are many aspects to the operations of Tau Beta Sigma. These programs range from day-to-day tasks to large-scale programs to national events. Donations to the General Fund support areas including, but not limited to:

  • Maintenance of our National Headquarters at the Historic Stillwater Station and Annex building
  • Salary and benefits for Headquarters Staff
  • Online Membership and Reporting System (OMRS)
  • Student leadership development including National Leadership Conference for District Officers
  • Chapter Visitation Program
  • Ongoing history and archives efforts

To designate your donation to the General Fund, select General fund in the dropdown on the Donation page.

The National Intercollegiate Band (NIB) is one of the most exciting programs of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, begun nearly seventy years ago. This ensemble continues to make a significant contribution to the advancement of the collegiate band by providing performance opportunities and contributing new commissioned works to the concert band medium.

Auditions into the NIB are open to all qualified college musicians and being a member of Kappa Kappa Psi or Tau Beta Sigma is NOT a requirement. The NIB brings members face-to-baton with some of the most dynamically stimulating composers and respected conductors in America. Dr. F. Lee Bowling, Kappa Kappa Psi National President (Alpha Iota) from 1941-1947, is regarded as the Founder of the National Intercollegiate Band.

More information about the NIB can be found at www.nib.kkytbsonline.com.

To designate your donations directly to the National Intercollegiate Band, select the Stanley G. Finck NIB Fund on the Donation page.

The Women in Music in Speaker Series has developed into the hallmark of the Sorority’s National Programs. An integral component of District and National Conventions, this program engages our members by providing the opportunity to meet women who work in various aspects of the music profession, for example, professional performers, music therapists, and educators. This program attempts to connect members with our mission statement by giving women in music a platform to speak.

This program was first launched during the 1997 District Convention season. Every year since the National Council of Tau Beta Sigma has recognized women in the field of music to speak and/or perform at both district and national conventions. Although early in the execution of the program the participants were largely chosen from those within the current membership, the program has grown and evolved into a nation-wide search to find women with compelling stories to tell and words of wisdom to bestow upon our membership.

To designate your donation to this program, select the Women in Music Speaker Series in the dropdown on the Donation page.

Each academic year Tau Beta Sigma provides up to four $2000 scholarships to Active members to assist in their educational pursuits.

  • Tau Beta Sigma National Scholarship for Outstanding Student Leaders: This award honors active members who have distinguished themselves as outstanding student leaders of Tau Beta Sigma, their band, their campus, and in academics.
  • Tau Beta Sigma Patsy Drury Hejl National Scholarship for Outstanding Musical Achievement: The Patsy Drury Hejl National Scholarship for Outstanding Musical Achievement was designed to honor those active members who have distinguished themselves as outstanding musicians during their college career.
  • Tau Beta Sigma Wava Scholarship: This award is designed to provide assistance to women who are preparing to enter the field of Music Education.
  • Tau Beta Sigma Legacy Scholarship: This award was developed by the Board of Trustees to provide assistance to members who show outstanding business ability within Tau Beta Sigma or their band and is open to applications from women and men in Tau Beta Sigma.
