TBS Drops Chapter & Expulsion due to Hazing

Dear Sisters & Brothers of Tau Beta Sigma:

The purpose of this announcement is to notify all Members that the National Council has voted to remove the Epsilon Psi Chapter at Prairie View State University from the active roster.

On July 14, 2010 the National Headquarters was contacted by an individual asking why the Epsilon Psi Chapter was listed as Suspended on the University’s website, but remained in good standing on the TBS website. Further research revealed that certain Active Members of the Epsilon Psi Chapter had been responsible for the injury of a Prospective Member sometime during the Fall of 2008 that resulted in a hospital visit. The University conducted an investigation and found the chapter guilty of Hazing. The university acknowledged that due to an oversight, the Sorority through our National Headquarters was not informed. Further, Members of the chapter, the Sponsor, nor the Director of Bands did not inform the Sorority.

Based on the information provided to us in July, the National Council voted to remove the Epsilon Psi Chapter for a period of not less than five years. We sincerely regret to have to take such drastic measures against any of our chapters, but when the actions of any chapter jeopardize the Sorority as a whole, there simply is no option!

The National Council wants all of our Members to be aware of the standing of our chapters, and we will continue to announce any similar decision that is made to protect the Sorority.
